Welcome to the PPSD Student Attendance Community Summit Resource Center. You’ll find useful materials from the day’s sessions, which we encourage you to reference and share among your teams.
What is my call to action? How do I keep the conversation going?
- Talk: Discuss attendance with your child; become the “broken record” they need.
- Engage your child’s circle of friends: Who are they? How are they doing in school?
- Monitor: Check your child’s attendance year-long through skyward. Gain access to skyward by watching the tutorial (in English or Spanish) on providenceschools.org.
- Motivate: Inspire your child to get involved in school activities to build interest and meet new friends.
- Speak up: If you have concerns, don’t keep them to yourself—request a meeting with your child’s teachers at the elementary level and guidance counselors at the middle and high school level.
- Seek help: When your child shows signs of depression, low self-esteem, lost of interest in school or the future, reach out to pediatricians, school staff, and others in your support network.
- Share out: Remind others about the importance of attendance. If students are not in school, they will have difficulty feeling motivated and doing well—and that affects all of us.
- Help create a buzz: Talk with your networks about attendance and determine action steps to share the learning and data from today’s summit.
- Stay informed: Attend school board meetings and keep yourself informed about the district’s progress.

- Design systems that help schools track attendance.
- Train staff how to have productive conversations with students and parents.
- Create opportunities for peer counseling and support.
- Assemble attendance teams designed to monitor and problem-solve.
- Cultivate school cultures that are rigorous and make students feel loved and encouraged.
