What is KiNVO?
KiNVO is a simple, yet powerful communications, attendance, and engagement software.
Why do New York City schools use KiNVO?
Manage Student Engagement/Attendance in Any Return-to-School Scenario
Engage All Families
KiNVO is built around equity with a suite of communications features like two-way messaging instantly translated in 80+ languages so that you can engage all families regardless of their home language, living situation, internet access, or reading abilities. By using a single tool for all communications, from the classroom to the district office, we help districts create a consistent, streamlined communication pathway between school and home.
Improve Safety and Security
Unlike most K–12 messaging apps, KiNVO is a single communications tool for teachers and administrators that eliminates the need for individual teacher communication tools so that your district can comply with New York State’s D-2 law and remain FERPA and COPPA compliant. KiNVO also keeps digital archives of parent-teacher communications with administrative oversight so that you can better protect your staff and community.
Communicate a Proven Crisis Attendance Management Plan
Every K–12 district will face a critical event where they need to document students’ whereabouts and connect with families in real time. Nobody can predict what these events will be, who they will impact, nor when they will happen. Kinvolved can provide you with a proven crisis attendance management plan that you can easily “plug-and-play” in your district. The plan will help you handle any crisis situation—whether it’s with an individual student or your entire district—and provide you with a reliable plan that you can confidently point your community, school board, and funders to when they seek accountability.
Cut Costs and Save Time
KiNVO doesn’t replace jobs, but it does make everything easier and more efficient which saves time and cuts costs for your team. Here are a few of the many ways KiNVO helps your budget:

How is KiNVO Supporting NYC Schools in the Fall of 2020?
There are three scenarios that the New York districts are forecasting for the Fall of 2020. Here’s how KiNVO can help you manage attendance/engagement and contact all families regardless of which scenario comes to fruition.
New York districts may be working with a hybrid schedule in the Fall of 2020 where a portion of students attend the school building each day while others learn remotely. This can be an operational nightmare for administrators, educators, and families to manage, but KiNVO makes it easy.
Here’s just one example of how KiNVO can help:
- Set up custom groups
- Set up recurring messages
- Set up automated attendance notifications
- Rinse and Repeat
By doing this, all families will receive a personalized, proactive reminder about when their child needs to attend class in person.
If the student is not present for a class—whether in person or remotely—KiNVO will send an automated and personalized attendance notification to the families.
These messages are two-way, translated messages, so families can easily reply and ask any questions they may have. This improves school-home trust and gets parents and educators working on the same page to support students throughout this turbulent time.
Remote Learning Scenario
If New York schools are engaged 100% in distance learning again similar to the end of spring 2020, KiNVO makes it easy to manage your student engagement.
KiNVO empowers your team to communicate with students and families who don’t speak English, who don’t have a permanent home, who don’t read, and who don’t have a smart device or internet access to ensure ongoing access to information and participation in the virtual school community.
KiNVO helps you effectively manage your Average Daily Attendance (ADA), chronic absence, and school communications in ways that drive strong results. The powerful attendance data visualizations empower you to make data-driven decisions based off of information and trends that you might not have noticed otherwise.
Schools have leveraged KiNVO to help reduce chronic absenteeism among ELL students by 22%, increase graduation rates by 11%, increase parent attendance at annual Title 1 meetings 30x, retain funding for programs, and much more.
Why Do NYC Leaders Think KiNVO is the best?

We implemented KiNVO in 2015-16, and if you look at our data, that’s exactly when you see an increase in attendance rate, increase in graduation rate, decrease in chronic absenteeism, and an increase in state exam scores.
The thing that has been most beneficial is the ability to reach parents in a way that we have never been able to before. KiNVO has wholly alleviated anxieties around the unknowns that we've had to face during this unprecedented time.

Our Easy 5 Step Plan to Help You
Complete a contact data diagnostic
We’ll kick off our partnership with a contact data diagnostic to quickly identify which phone numbers and email addresses in your SIS are inaccurate or missing.
Provide an Action Plan to Update Inaccurate and Missing Contact Data
After running a diagnostic and providing a custom report, we will help you systematize a process to update the inaccurate or unknown information so that you can engage more students and families.
Centralize Equitable Communications
With improved contact data in hand, we’ll implement KiNVO, the all-in-one attendance and communications tool to ensure your team has the tools necessary to engage all families regardless of language, housing, internet access, or technological literacy.
With all staff members on a DIIT (NYC DOE) approved software, your school will be compliant with Section 2-D of the New York State law about unauthorized release of personally identifiable information that most communications vendors miss.
You’ll also gain secure, administrative oversight into all communications in both remote and in-person settings so that you can truly protect your staff and community.
Provide Professional Learning
After the software is implemented, we will provide professional learning for your team so that everyone understands how to use the tool in effective ways prior to school starting. We’ll also focus on research-based practices to truly engage students and families.
Monitor Meaningful Student Engagement, Interaction, and Attendance
KiNVO makes it possible to easily monitor and report meaningful student engagement, interaction, and attendance. Regardless of whether your monitoring in person, remotely, or somewhere in between, KiNVO makes it easy.
Additionally, we have already customized KiNVO to meet the NYC DOE’s directives around meaningful student engagement, and are prepared to customize further to bring efficiency and accuracy to all our NYC DOE partner schools.

About Kinvolved’s work in NYC
Kinvolved has helped NYC schools prevent absenteeism and improve student outcomes for over eight years.
Based out of NYC, we are recognized as a certified women-business enterprise by NYC and the state of New York—the latter of which is our largest investor.
We currently work with nearly 200 schools in the NYC DOE, serving higher than average in-need populations and driving strong results; in 2019, Kinvolved partner schools in NYC DOE saw a 7.52% reduction in chronic absenteeism compared to all NYC DOE schools.
During COVID-19 school closures, New York schools were able to leverage KiNVO—our attendance and communications software—as a central lifeline to remain connected with their communities.
We’re proud to report that we have helped our NYC schools maintain engagement rates above 95 percent—a significant increase from many other schools in the district—throughout the COVID-19 school closures.
In addition to our long-standing work in NYC and NYS, we were just awarded the ERIE I BOCES contract which means our technology and integrations are vetted for the safety, privacy, and security standards of New York.
* The John Adams High School team says that KiNVO is a large part of their strategy to get more students to school so that they can bolster student success. While KiNVO isn’t fully responsible for this outcome, the John Adams team says KiNVO was a significant factor.
